Ripon Girls Triumph
The girls of Ripon Air Cadets enjoyed tremendous success in the area Swimming Championships held recently at Catterick Garrison. With a near clean sweep of gold medals the junior girls team was just too strong for the opposition.
886 (City of Ripon) Squadron ATC is one of 22 units making up Central and East Yorkshire Wing which covers an area from Middlesborough down to Hull. Competition was fierce between the teams at the event. There were creditable performances throughout the afternoon but it was the junior girls who excelled on this particular occasion. Anna Burton-Cole, Nicky Gears, Laura McCarthy and Hannah Waddington all struck gold for the squadron earning an impressive 109 out of 110 points in the team competition. The senior boys team also came close to tasting success but were narrowly beaten into second place with their competitors from York proving slightly the stronger as they edged ahead by just 3 points.
Overall Ripon squadron achieved a very commendable 3rd place and 5 members of the unit have been selected to represent the Wing at the North Region championships to be held in Manchester next month.
