14 Jul 08 - RBL Spitfire at the Great Yorkshire Show
On 14th, 15th and 16th July four cadets - Cpl Mingay, Cpl Ireland, Sgt Thornton and Flt Sgt Thornton - were at the Great Yorkshire Show to assist the Royal British Legion. (Ripon branch the display of the Mk Vb Supermarine Spitfire replica.)
The public were allowed to sit in the aircraft and, if they so wished, could have their photo taken for a suggested donation of four pounds. To help with the running of the Spitfire, the cadets rotated between helping people in and out of the cockpit, taking the photos and printing them off, talking to people about the aircraft and taking the money for the photos.
During our breaks we were allowed to wander around the show, looking at things like sheep shearing, dog shows, peculiar yellow sheep and for one female Cpl, getting great satisfaction out of a giant chocolate fountain.
Unfortunately, the Queen did not make a visit to see the Spitfire, but we still had a very satisfying victory against the Army cadets from Harrogate and Knaresborough on the Army's blow up assault course, winning by a large margin.
