02 Aug 08 - Cpl McCarthy visits RAF Brize Norton's 2nd ATC Summer Camp 2008
On the 2nd August I travelled down to Brize Norton with 19 other cadets. They were all complete strangers to me. However by the end of the week I'd made lots of great friends.
During the week we went shooting on a 25m range, completed a night ex, and visited lots of different sections on base. We went to 99 Squadron who fly the C-17 Globemaster, 101 Squadron with the VC10, 216 Squadron with the TriStar, No.1 Parachute Training School, Dog Section, Fire Section and the RAF Regiment. There were also social activites including ice skating, swimming, other sports and a trip to Oxford. Unfortunately we missed out on the High Ropes course due to bad weather, but instead we did team building exercises. As this was early on in the week these activities were useful in bringing the group together. Later on in the week we visited the RAF museum in London, and on Friday some cadets were lucky enough to get a flight in a C-17 Globemaster, and others got a chance in a VC10 simulator.
Overall it was an amazing week. We managed to fit a lot into a small space of time, and after getting up at half five every morning everyone was extremely exhausted!
