03 Feb 09 - Air Cadets Bank Community Award
Ripon Air Cadets received a welcome boost to their funds when Robert Goodier of the Civilian Committee presented them with a cheque for £250 at a recent Parade Night ceremony.
The money is a Community Cashback Award made by the Royal Bank of Scotland. The Bank has a policy of encouraging employees to offer their time to worthwhile causes and the Ripon Air Cadets were lucky that Robert chose them. He then applied for the Award which the Bank considered met their criteria as the Air Cadets perform a valuable role within the community.
The Air Cadets in Ripon give 30 - 40 local boys and girls in any one year the chance for many exciting experiences; to take part in various community fund-raising activities such as the British Legion Poppy Appeal and they are also offered opportunities to experience life in the RAF which helps in possible career decision-making.
It is this work within the community that secured the award and Sergeant Wayne Cobbett was happy to receive the cheque in front of the assembled cadets who now look forward to putting the money to good use.
Ripon squadron is currently recruiting new cadets aged 13 years or older and volunteer adult staff aged over 20.
